Live Daily with Thanksgiving and Light the World with Love

We feel very blessed to be serving as missionaries here in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.  We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at the Cumorah Academy.  We stayed 2 nights at the hotel/campus and enjoyed mentoring, befriending and meeting with many of the young adults there.  As I've mentioned before, the future is bright with such strong young women and men who love good and God.

We give thanks for God, His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ, our families and dear friends in life.  We are filled with His Love and His Light beyond our expectations.  May we all Light the World with Love this season and always.

Fantastic Friends and Thanksgiving Feast filled us well

We celebrated our November wedding anniversaries together (their 1st and our 38th)--such a wonderful Ukrainian couple.  We brought some Indian Food from Jihlava and enjoyed an evening meal last Friday.   Yaroslav and Lara's stories are filled with the Spirit, Faith, Love and Hope.

Yaroslav studied with the missionaries for about a year and was interested, but not deeply at first.  One day a college friend invited him to have a couple of beers.  During their discussions, Yaroslav mentioned he was learning about Christ through some U.S. missionaries.  His friend asked if he could come to their next meeting.  Yaroslav asked the missionaries and of course they were delighted to meet his friend.  Yaroslav's friend really took to the message and decided to be baptized in 2 weeks time.  Yaroslav stepped back and decided he better pray and found out if the message was true or not for himself.  In a short time, he was baptized and later served a full time mission to Oregon in the U.S.   His college friend was married in the Kiev temple and has 2 kids today.

Lara's parents were early converts in eastern Ukraine and would meet with missionaries or a few members once or twice a month.  She came from a family of 5 children.  Lara was quite anxious of being called to serve on Temple Square SLC, so she was relieved when she was called to serve her mission in Salt Lake City West.  After their missions, they met back in Ukraine at a Young Single Adult activity in Kiev and have such great plans and dreams.  We couldn't be happier for them both!

Thanksgiving Feast

These chefs and their staff of 5 worked all day to deliver a delicious Thursday Thanksgiving feast.  The students were in line early after a busy day traveling the countryside one last trip before lockdown in the Czech Republic.

I shared the real 1620 story (4 deer from Indians and Puritan's bumper crop shared meal) and U.S. presidents who set up Thanksgiving.  Each person expressed something they were Thankful for before we ate....later more time to express gratitude was given in the conference room at evening devotional--a great Thanksgiving.

Our first overnight stay at the Academy

We stayed 2 nights at the Stamberk hotel (Cumorah Academy) with the youth as we picked up Rocio Gutierrez (Spanish Sister working in Mental Health and Family Therapy for the church out of Frankfurt) from the Prague airport and return last Friday/Saturday.  We gladly accepted a Thanksgiving feast invite for Thursday!

Rocio Gutierrez was helpful and informative about how we can improve our Emotional and Mental Health.  She had 2 presentations for the entire group; she met one on one with a handful of students.  The mentors and professionals who come each week are amazing.  The Boams travel up from Vienna each week for 3 days to teach Institute and Business Leadership classes (former UofU professor).

First Snow at the Academy and snowman by the Ukraine-France team.  Moldova, France-Madagascar, German trio sang and played like angels Friday evening.  Unfortunately, the video is too long to post.  Henry and Elka Kosak from Germany spent their 2nd week at the Academy.  He supports BYU Pathways for Europe and Africa--it is a daunting growth task.  The youth loved their humor and time together.  I enjoyed learning more about (east) German and our shared heritage.
